Small Arms
The UN small arms review conference held 24th-27th July 2006 (see Headlines 2006/03), only the
second of its kind to be called by the UN, was aimed at providing a clear framework for
governments to protect people from gun violence. Unfortunately, as a statement released by IANSA
reveals, “the long awaited UN Small Arms conference has ended in failure. Hijacked by a small
number of states, notably the US, the conference failed to agree on any measures at all to address
the global gun crisis.” Together with Oxfam and Amnesty International, IANSA, the International
Action Network on Small Arms, is the coordinator of Control Arms, a campaign launched in 2003
