The African Social Apostolate meeting 2009

The annual meeting of the Coordinators of the social apostolate in the Assistancy of Africa took place in Monrovia, Liberia, from 25 to 30 October. Liberia is among the countries that make up the North-West Africa province (ANW). The meeting discussed many issues including networking among the Assistancy’s Social Centres and Institutions involved in Management of Natural Resources, Human Rights & Peace, and Education. These three areas were identified as priorities by the African social apostolate during the Advocacy workshop held in Kinshasa in July 2008.

The most important resolutions of the meeting are, first, to set up a general network of all the social centres in the Assistancy, starting next year’s meeting with a strategic plan for three years (2011-2013). The second resolution is to set up a network of those working in the area of Natural Resources. For a start, CEPAS (DR Congo), JCTR (Zambia), CEFOD (Chad) and Silveira House (Zimbabwe) will be members of the network; other social centres are invited to join. (Ghislain TSHIKENDWA Matadi SJ)
