Film awards to students from Loyola Academy, Secunderabad, India


Films produced by mass communication students of Loyola Academy in Awal, Secunderabad in southern India were honored in three different national competitions. A documentary titled "Caste and Counterview" (directed by Ms. Madhuri Mikkili and Gautam Kumar) won the award as second best documentary at the national student film festival conducted by Zahnagirabad Media Institute, Lucknow, India. The documentary discusses the discrimination in the name of caste at the educational institutions in urban areas and in rural areas of the state.

Rituraj Sapkota bagged one of the seven awards at a competition held at Manipal University, Manipal, Karnataka, He won the first prize for TV ad. His TV ad was in fact a public service announcement educating the public about environmental degradation.

One of our documentaries named "Disaster" was nominated for another national film festival at Aurobindo Institute of Mass Communication. This is a film on the Tsunami and how Tsunami victims cope with their lives after the destruction at Sri Lanka. It is made by a Sri Lankan student Chintaka Senadeera.
